pierrenutbutterjones: What was your first experience listening to the strokes? Like your age, maybe who showed you them, and how you came to be a rad fan.

ooh I’ll publish this cuz it’s a good story. okay i found out about them through myself. I was a new arctic monkeys fan in august of 2009 and about 5 months after I became a fan, I had read all am interviews and noticed they talked about the strokes a lot. so, as an obsessed fan of am, I searched the strokes and the first song I heard by them was take it or leave it. I was in YouTube and searched “the strokes arctic monkeys” or something like that. so I saw their cover of take it or leave and and I was like “hm… I wonder what this band sounds like…” so then I searched up the strokes doing take it or leave it and I loved the song instantly. (it was this video http://youtu.be/C0qls7b5oAY and it had like 10k views at the time!) I heard “someday” next and I was like “this is it. this is the best song I’ve ever fucking heard”. so I listened to the albums that were out at the time and Julian’s solo I loved them all but I was still so overly obsessed with am that I couldn’t focus on anything except am. plus, I knew that fioe had came out in January 2006 and it was then 2010 so I thought they weren’t gonna make another album. so I was like “no use in obsessing over them if they aren’t gonna continue making music:(” so it drifted out of my three month strokes obsession (from like the end of January to April) and fell back into the monkeys obsession…. until angles came out. when angles came out I was so fucking excited and I thought it was so great and amaZing (it still is great and amazing) and it was my favorite strokes album up until like a year ago. now it’s fioe cuz I’ve grown to appreciate everything about it. so from 2011-now they’ve been my obsession. arctic monkeys too, of course. so yeah!!! that’s my story!!! and it’s so fucking weird because the strokes fandom got so much bigger after AM was released. I guess they sparked an indie revolution lmao idk. but yeah. my 2009 am obsession sparked my 2010-2014 strokes obsession!!
